Dr. McCord's Bio

Dr. Michelle McCord was named Superintendent of Frenship ISD in November of 2015. She previously served as Frenship’s Deputy Superintendent for a short time after serving as Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services beginning in May 2010.

She began her career at Archer City High School in 1989, and after several years in the classroom she transitioned into private counseling. Dr. McCord began managing the operations and business activities of a large mental health care organization in Wichita Falls and the surrounding area. Realizing the impact on clients was the most fulfilling aspect of her profession, Dr. McCord moved back into education and served as a school counselor in Wichita Falls ISD, Pearland ISD, and Iowa Park CISD. She joined the administrative team at Iowa Park High School as an Assistant Principal in 2007 and then the central office team at Allen ISD as the Assessment Coordinator in 2008.

Dr. McCord’s operational experience in both business and public education have uniquely positioned her to lead the Frenship ISD through a time of historic growth. The district has experienced 3%-5% annual growth for over a decade and currently serves 11,500 students and employs 1,400 people. Frenship’s 15 campuses span 127 square miles including Wolfforth, Lubbock, and the western portion of Lubbock County.

Dr. McCord earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University and her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Midwestern State University. Dr. McCord serves on the Board of Directors for the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and the Lubbock Area United Way, and is a member of the Rotary Club of Lubbock and the Wolfforth Lions Club. In 2018 she was named a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains and in 2020 was named a Woman of Excellence by the YWCA of Lubbock.

In 2021, Dr. McCord was named Superintendent of the Year by Texas PTA. Each year Texas PTA requests nominations for outstanding educators in PTA schools. Texas PTA recognizes outstanding educators whose work embodies the association’s mission, enhances student learning environments, and directly involve students’ parents and families in their school life.
