In the Summer of 2018 in partnership with BGR Architects and the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, Frenship ISD piloted the first Teacher Externship Program on the South Plains. Through this program 57 teachers K-12, along with media specialists, received a stipend and professional development credit to complete three days embedded with an employer in the Lubbock area.
Through these immersive experiences, teachers brought real-world perspective, hands-on experience, and a clearer understanding of content application and job-ready skills for the benefit of their students.
In 2019, LEDA and Workforce Solutions South Plains built a regional externship program on the shoulders of the Frenship model, placing over 150 educators from across the region in externship experiences with significant grant funding from LEDA and the Texas Workforce Commission.
Frenship is proud to continue serving on the leading edge of innovative professional development strategies as well as providing our teachers with the most impactful resources, supports, and partnerships available to be as effective as possible in the classroom.
