Summer Externship Program Available for FISD Teachers Thanks to Grant

Frenship teachers will once again have the opportunity for great summer professional development thanks to the 2019 South Plains Teacher Externship program.

The Workforce Solutions South Plains and the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance (LEDA) have partnered to fund $127,912 to facilitate the South Plains Teacher Externship Program for teachers across the area during the summer of 2019. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) awarded a $77,912 grant to Workforce Solutions South Plains for the program, and LEDA is providing and additional $50,000.

The South Plains Teacher Externship experience will provide teachers with three full working days onsite in a local business. During the program, businesses will provide teachers with hands-on working experiences and opportunities to observe several different aspects of business techniques and processes. Teachers will gain real-world perspective that they can hopefully apply within their classroom and specific course area.

“Teachers show up every day and are there to inspire and influence, guide and encourage our students to see and reach their dreams,” said TWC Public Commissioner Robert D. Thomas. “This program gives these dedicated professionals firsthand knowledge into growing industries in their communities to incorporate.”

The deadline for Frenship teachers to apply for the South Plains Teacher Externship program is this Thursday, March 21. To apply for the program, click the link provided here.
