Pharmacy Technician Program Receives Recognition by the National Pharmacy Technician Certifying Board

It was formally announced last week that the Frenship High Schol Pharmacy Technician program was recognized by the National Pharmacy Technician Certifying Board, allowing students who complete the program to be eligible to apply for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam starting in 2020.

The recognition by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is a new requirement in 2020.  Anyone aspiring to be certified by the PTCB after January 1, 2020, must be able to show proof of completion of a recognized course.

"The district’s generous provision to our students to offer Pass Assured’s online curriculum and support was key to a swift application approval process," said Department Head, Lori Powell.

The Pharmacy Technician program is strenuous and requires a lot of time and dedication from the students in the program. Students are charged to learn multiple pharmacological aspects of over 200 medications, perform high-level mathematic equations with perfection, be firmly grounded in legal matters related to pharmacy, learn aseptic techniques as well as being well versed in today’s very fluid healthcare insurance environment. Students must know how and where to store medications, evaluate patient’s medication lists and understand medical with pharmacological vocabulary & abbreviations.

"It’s exciting that this certification opens doors for additional specialties, rather certifications, within the field of Pharmacy Technician," said Powell. "As students show their trainee status or licensure to potential employers or admission boards, FHS’ Pharmacy Technician program will be listed on the PTCB website as a recognized program. This gives assurances to students, parents, future employers, desired academic entities and our community of the quality of program offered at Frenship High School"

"FHS has great students," said Powell. "Our HST division is an elite team of Nurses who educate well. The result of great students and an elite team is accomplished students who will, someday, be OUR Healthcare providers. I am confident we will be in the best of hands!"
