Ninth Grade Center Students Join Elementary Peers in the Classroom

By Traci Carr

Ninth Grade Center at BennettThe Frenship High School Ninth Grade Center Student Council and FOR (Friends of Rachel) Club joined together to read to their younger peers at Bennett Elementary. Twenty freshmen divided up to read different stories to students in second through fifth grade then helped the teachers with their lessons for the day.

“Our students were so excited to read to the younger kids,” said Assistant Principal, Heather Wainscott, who is a FOR Club sponsor. “It was a really heartwarming experience to see the joy in both a high school student and the elementary students. Our students even asked if they could stay there all day.”

Brian Singletary, Student Council sponsor said the Ninth Grade Center students wanted to provide the younger kids with some fun and give their teachers a well-deserved break.

Ninth Grade Center at Bennett"We visited a number of classrooms and were able to read books to the multiple students at the elementary level," Singletary said. "I think that the younger kids really enjoyed interacting with the high school students. They asked a ton of questions, and our Student Council kids enjoyed seeing the smile on the younger kids' faces.”
