Student Achievements and Grants Announced at Board Meeting

Frenship ISD’s January school board meeting was filled with recognitions and honors to kick start the year. The meeting started with a presentation to the Board of Trustees to celebrate School Board Appreciation Month. This year’s theme is “Launching the Next Generation”.

All seven board members were surprised with heartfelt notes from Frenship’s January Students of the Month and handmade gifts from art classes. They also had the opportunity to watch a video where students expressed their gratitude for the board’s hard work and dedication to providing meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that propel them into future careers.

Falling in line with this theme, Frenship ISD also recognized community members for supporting a unique program for students.

Grants and Donations Help Kick-Start New Entrepreneurship Course

During the meeting, the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, LEDA, was honored for graciously providing $25,000 to help kick-start a new INCubatoredu entrepreneurship course at Frenship High School. The program will empower FHS students to build their own businesses from ideation through operation in a one-year immersive startup experience. LEDA’s grant will help with initial program startup including the first year of curriculum costs.

Board members also honored George and Linda McMahan for providing a private gift to the program. Their generous gift will help with the build-out of an innovative and collaborative classroom space possible.

High Demand Job Training Grant

Students will also be receiving new equipment thanks to a $33,500 High Demand Job Training grant from LEDA and Workforce Solutions South Plains.

The 6th awarding of this grant from the State of Texas and matched by LEDA will provide a new water jet and 3D printer for the FHS Engineering Lab to assist students training to be engineers or machinists. Up to 135 students will be able to prepare to receive the Solidwork certification in Computer-Aided Design utilizing these new tools in the first year. Frenship has received more than $151,000 through High Demand Job training grants since 2016.

FHS Athlete Receives Academic All-State Cross Country

The Board of Trustees had the honor of recognizing Frenship High School student Quinten Bruce. Quinten is a varsity cross country runner who was selected to the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas 2019 Class 6A Academic All-State Cross Country Team.
