Girls Basketball Claims Area Championship

The Tigers (29-5, 10-0) met up with the North Crowley Panthers at Merkel High School last Thursday. The Tigers took care of business in a big way with a 71-59 victory in a tough, fast, hard-fought game. It was raining threes in Merkel as Ashlyn Caddel, the reigning Lone Star Varsity Female Athlete of the Week, dropped six on the Lady Panthers, five of them in the first half. Overall the Tigers sank 11 three-pointers on the day.

Maci Maddox set the defensive tone early racking up eight steals for the Tigers in the first half while Caddel reigned threes on the offensive end. Maddox dropped a three of her own in the first quarter but did most of her work from the charity stripe going 9-10 from there. Caddell led the way for Frenship with 20 points and Maddox chipped in 16 of her own. Airron Gayden knocked down another 10 points and had two three-pointers as well.

The Tigers will be back at it Tuesday, 2/25 in the Regional Quarterfinals against El Paso Pebble Hills (19-4, 8-2). That game will be played in the familiar confines of Fort Stockton High School at 4:30pm. The game can be heard on Oldies 97.7 and their mobile app with Chois Woodman on the call.
