Frenship ISD Names New Director of Finance

Vela has worked in the Frenship Business Office for more than eight years and most recently served as the District’s Coordinator of Accounting. In her new role, Vela will be responsible for directing and managing the daily operation of all financial and business activities for the District including payroll, local and state grants, financial system administration, travel, insurance, and risk management.

“Lela is a wonderful Christian example with a heart for others, a passion for education, and a commitment to excellence in all that she does,” said Farley Reeves, Frenship ISD Chief Financial Officer. “She has earned this opportunity through her hard work, dedication, and willingness to grow and lead.”

Vela is a Red Raider with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas Tech University. This fall she will finish her Master of Science in Accounting from Western Governors University. She has also received her Registered Texas School Business Administrator certification through the Texas Association of School Business Officials.

Not only do I thoroughly enjoy the type of work I do, I am so blessed to have found the perfect niche in school finance,” said Vela. “I always knew I would work in education. Naturally, I thought I would become a teacher, but after obtaining work experience in the accounting and finance industry, I realized that I could use those particular skills and still serve in education.”

Vela says she is proud to be part of the Frenship family. She has been married to her husband Rafael for 17 years and has three sons who attend Frenship ISD, Novy, Merek, and Calun.

She assumes the role of the District’s former Director of Finance Courtney Reeves who accepted a position at Plano ISD earlier this year.
