Frenship Volleyball Opens Season with Thriller on 34th Street

The Tigers came out swinging with a sweep of Caprock 25-11, 25-17, and 25-21. They moved on to face Coronado with a 1-0 record to defend and in the midst of a playoff atmosphere on the road in this shortened season.

Frenship took an early lead after winning the first set 27-25 in a hard-fought battle that was a harbinger of what the evening had in store. The Mustangs galloped back taking two sets in a row 24-26, and 21-25. But the Tigers shined with the match hanging in the balance and found new life with sparks from the bench provided by Madison Ramsey’s 7 kills, 3 digs, and 2 blocks. Taylor Boyd also chipped in 6 kills, and 3 digs and Lexi Moore notched 9 kills and 3 digs as well.

The Tigers evened the match forcing a fifth set with a 25-21 victory in the fourth. The Mustangs charged hard in the final set jumping out to a 4-1 lead, but Gracie Harrison (21 kills, 10 digs) pounded home a set-tying kill off a Kayton Genenbacher (50 assists, 18 digs) assist. Devyn Nairn (23 digs, 12 kills) provided the final blow in a kill that ended an incredible match and gave the Tigers their second win of the season.

Also notable on the evening was senior libero Hannah Page with 24 digs. Page is one of 10 seniors on a Tiger Volleyball squad who makes no qualms about being hungry for a big season and unsatisfied with their first-round exit from the UIL Playoffs in 2019.

The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, September 22 at the Tiger Pit at 6:00 pm where they will face off with the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates. Safety and ticketing guidelines for this game are available HERE. E-ticket sales for families of athletes will begin Saturday, September 19 at Noon. General admission e-tickets can be purchased beginning Sunday, September 20 at Noon.
