Frenship High School One Act Play Advances to State Competition

The group performed “Blue Stockings,” by Jessica Swale, a play about four talented female undergraduates and their campaign to be treated like their male counterparts. During the Regional Competition on April 17 in Keller, Texas, the FHS group was selected as an Advancing Play.

Several members also won individual awards at the Regional Competition:

Samantha Walshaw, Best Performer

Lynnli Wiseman, All Star Cast

Camree Miller, Honorable Mention All Star Cast

Brooklyn Fisher, Outstanding Technician

Frenship One Act Play Director Jacob Lierman said he was excited to tell his cast and crew they were an advancing play.

"One of the greatest moments of my life was watching their reaction when I announced we had made it," Lierman said. "These kids are hungry for greatness, and making it to state has only magnified that by one hundred percent. They want that state title and we are so close to holding that trophy."

Lierman said they aren't planning on changing a thing about their show before the state competition.

"We won't change anything to prepare for state, it's all about keeping the course," Lierman said. "The beauty of this cast is that they love to work, and work hard! We can't control the outcome, that is in the hands of a judge with a subjective opinion. All we can control is our work ethic and determination. Here is what I know, if we show up and tell this unbelievable story in the way that I know we can, we will give the competition a run for their money. We can do this!"

The group will compete on May 1 in the State UIL One Act Play competition at the Waxahachie High School Performing Arts Center in Waxahachie, Texas at 12:30 p.m.

"Mrs. Pierson and I are beyond blessed to do what we do," Lierman said. "I am so thankful for the directing duo that is Pierson and Lierman. It's an absolute honor to work with the best of the best. These kids have blessed our lives in more ways than just a show. They have made us better in this process - we only hope that they have made memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. Let's go win us a state championship!"
