Frenship High School Students Qualify for State in Academic UIL Competition

Frenship High School Academic UIL Students have excelled in both the District and Regional competitions, and now will advance to the State level.

Trista Presley, Frenship High School UIL coach says that the students work all throughout the year completing practice tests and attending invitational meetings on the weekends. “I am extremely proud of all the hard work that they have put in to prepare for District and Regionals. At Regionals, we compete with most of the large schools around the Dallas area and it is really hard to advance to that level. There are only a handful of students from our district (District 2) moving on to compete at state,” said Presley.

The two students who will have the opportunity to compete at state are:

Katherine Dyal - 3rd place in Copy Editing, state qualifier

Reagan Hanks - 4th place in Feature Writing, state alternate

“At the state level, you have the best of the best. The top three out of our district of six schools advance to Regionals. Then the top three of our regions of approximately 65 schools advance to state,” said Presley.

Students who compete at State are eligible for scholarship opportunities. “Students competing at the state level are eligible to apply for the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation (TILF) Scholarships.  These scholarships are awarded anywhere from $500 to $8,000,” said Presley.

The Academic UIL State Meet will take place at UT Austin, TX May 17th - 18th.

Congratulations students, Frenship ISD is proud of your accomplishments!
