Frenship ISD Celebrates Opening of Alcove Trails Middle School with Ribbon Cutting

Construction on the 160,000 square foot campus began in November of 2021, and last fall, the Frenship community, staff, students, and parents helped name the new school. After more than a year and half of construction, Frenship's fourth middle school, Alcove Trails, opened its doors in August of 2023 and welcomed more than 400 students and 50 staff members.

“Over the last two decades, I’ve seen the tremendous growth of our District. When I first joined Frenship, we only had one middle school, and today we are celebrating opening our fourth middle school and 15th campus in the district,” said Alcove Trails Principal Rebecca Whipkey who kicked off her 20th year at Frenship by opening Alcove Trails. "I know today we are here to talk about the physical building, and it is very beautiful, but at the end of the day, what truly makes Alcove Trails special are the people inside.”

During the ceremony, the Alcove Trails Middle School band made its first public appearance to play the national anthem. Alcove Trails cheerleaders and several students also joined in the fun to celebrate the opening of their new school. Eighth graders Payton Hill and Asher Campbell helped emcee the ceremony with special remarks by Frenship ISD School Board President Brad Draper, Superintendent Dr. Michelle McCord, and Alcove Trail Principal Rebecca Whipkey.

Dr. McCord emphasized that despite the rapid growth of the district, Frenship continues to hold on to the values, shared beliefs, and rich tradition of excellence that makes Frenship ISD such a special place to go to school and work.

"I love Frenship for many reasons, and one of the things I love about it is that we honor our past while focusing on the future," said Dr. McCord. “We’re building community, and that’s why we’re here.”

Alcove Trails is one of three new schools that was approved by voters in the Frenship ISD 2020 Bond. Frenship’s ninth elementary school is scheduled to open in August of 2024 and the second high school will open in August of 2025. For updates on Frenship’s new campuses, CLICK HERE.
