Frenship Marching Band Heads to Area UIL Contest

Last weekend, marching bands across the state competed in their UIL Regional Marching Contests. This contest hosts bands from 1A-6A, and Frenship competed alongside 33 schools.

The Region Marching Contest is judged by 3 judges who judge all aspects of the show, the music and visual performance. Each judge compares the band’s performance to a written UIL standard of excellence and assigns a rating to each band’s performance. The bands are scored on the following scale: 1 = Superior, 2 = Excellent, 3 = Good, 4 = Fair, 5 = Poor.

All three judges awarded the Frenship Band with the 1st Division rating of Superior. This rating qualifies the band for the UIL Area A Marching Contest in El Paso, TX, on Saturday, October 21.

The students continue to practice their amazing production each week as they move forward through the UIL competition. They have set their goals high, and they are working hard to achieve them.

The Area A Marching Contest will consist of a preliminary performance of fifteen 6A bands.  The judges will narrow those down to the top seven who will compete again in a final competition the same day.

At the end of the finals, 3 bands will be chosen to represent Area A at the UIL State Marching Band Championship held in the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Scott Carter, the Frenship High School Director of Bands, stated that the band staff is blessed to teach such amazing and hardworking students. They continue to excel in competitions and are always striving to reach the next level of success. The band staff members are incredibly proud that while the students continue to claim success, they realize winning a trophy isn’t the ultimate goal.

“We hope to empower them with the understanding that winning is a result of diligent effort focused on a collective goal,” said Carter. “None of us can do it alone.  But if we rely on each other, believe in the process, and take personal responsibility for making each other better people, then winning will find its way to us.”

Congratulations Frenship Marching Band, and good luck at Area!
