Boys Basketball Named Cedar Hill Tournament Champions

Three days of solid basketball is exactly what the Tigers needed after point guard Patton Pinkins suffered an injury before the tournament. After working through hardship, the team was excited to take the trophy home at the Cedar Hill tournament.

“It was really special for us to win the Cedar Hill tournament again this year,” said Head Boys Basketball Coach, Paul Page. “We won it two years ago but lost in the semifinal game last year, so it was great to be able to get back to the championship game again and win a tough tournament. We definitely had to handle adversity as we lost Patton Pinkins for the season on Tuesday night before we left for Cedar Hill on Wednesday.”

The Tigers are pumped up after winning their second tournament in a row. Coach Page is proud of how the team joined together to focus on the game.

“It was just fun for us as a team to be able to just be together and focus on basketball,” said Coach Page.  “We were able to play some really good competition and our guys really were focused on winning our second tournament in a row.  It was fun to see our guys come together and overcome adversity.”

In the tournament during the final game, Frenship won by one point against Southlake Carroll. The energy levels on the court were definitely high in those last few seconds.

“We were excited to play Southlake Carroll in the championship game. We were able to watch them play their semifinal game and knew that it would be very competitive between both teams,” said Coach Page. “It was a back and forth game and it came down to the last few possessions as both teams were definitely leaving it all on the court. We were able to score on a drive to the basket by Jakari Davis with three seconds left to tie the game and then Jakari hit the and one free throw to give us the 1-point lead and ultimately the victory.”

Armani Gacanica had a really good game and was able to lead us in scoring with 21 points.”
