With 20 years of experience in education and a heart for student growth, Nanette Weems steps into her new role with a deep appreciation for the values and community spirit that define Frenship ISD.
“The day I interviewed at Willow Bend with Denise Stewart was the day I realized I didn't want to work anywhere else other than Frenship ISD,” said Weems. “There is a family-oriented, small-town vibe that I had not experienced prior to or since. It fills my bucket to wake up every day and be a part of a district and campus such as Upland Heights, that educates students with such JOY.”
Weems is passionate about fostering an inclusive, supportive environment where every student is empowered to lead.
“My goal is to support and prepare ALL Upland Heights Elementary students for the world they will inherit with the potential to lead it by building relationships and partnerships with teachers, parents and families,” said Weems.
Originally from the Odessa/Midland area, Weems credits her early life experiences for shaping her commitment to education.
“Education changed the fabric of my family by elevating us out of poverty. I believe that education is the great equalizer and gives me great joy to help instill that power in our young students,” said Weems.
She earned her bachelor's degree in human development and family studies from Texas Tech University and her master's degree in educational leadership from Wayland Baptist University. Her educational journey brought her to Frenship ISD, where she has served as a classroom teacher, TAP mentor teacher, TAP master teacher at Willow Bend Elementary, and a district-level K–5 instructional coach. Prior to joining Frenship, she taught for 10 years at Dupre Elementary in Lubbock ISD.
Outside of school, Weems enjoys spending time with her family. She and her husband, Josh, a Lubbock native, are proud parents to Alyssa, a 7th grader at Alcove Trails Middle School, and Jaxon, a 1st grader at Upland Heights Elementary.
Welcome to your new role, Nanette Weems! We are excited to see you shine.
