Two Frenship Schools Introduce Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports

Upland Heights Elementary and Westwind Elementary have implemented Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports for the 2018-2019 school year. Legacy Elementary and Oak Ridge Elementary were PBIS schools prior to this school year.

“PBIS is about creating a common language and common expectations in your school so that all students understand what is expected of them,” explained Upland Heights Principal Denise Stewart. “When Upland Heights opened in 2016, we pulled in kids from three other schools. This will really help us all be on the same page,” said Stewart.

Upland Heights has taken the program a step forward with digital rewards lanyards. Each student wears a lanyard with a barcode that teachers can scan using an app. When scanned, the app awards points to the student for displaying positive behaviors. Students will be given reward days and other incentives based on the number of points that they earn.
