Ninth Grade Center Student Wins VFW Essay Contest- Again

When Lynnli Wiseman was an 8th grader at Frenship Middle School, she entered the Veterans of Foreign Wars Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest. After several rounds of competition, Lynnli’s essay won 1st place for the state of Texas and garnered $3,200 in college scholarships.

Now, as a freshman in high school, Wiseman is hoping to repeat her accomplishment. Wiseman was recently named the post-level winner for the VFW’s senior division essay contest entitled Voice of Democracy. This year’s essay topic is “Why My Vote Matters”.

“This is such an exciting opportunity, I didn’t think I would have the chance to go through this process again,” said Wiseman. “I’m really grateful for the chance to show my appreciation for our veterans and the country we live in, even in this small way.”

Wiseman has the support of her school as she hopes to advance through the contest once again.

“Any time you have a student succeed it’s a huge honor. Lynnli’s award is so special because she is representing our district in a way that honors and supports local veterans. We’re proud of what she’s accomplished,” said Ninth Grade Center Principal Heath Simpson.
