Rhonda Dillard, Frenship ISD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, has been selected as one of only nine women across the Lubbock area to be inducted into the YWCA’s prestigious Women of Excellence Academy this year. This award recognizes women who have achieved excellence in their careers and whose contributions to business, industry, organizations, and the community are crucial to the success of the same. This is the YWCA’s 37th year to celebrate Women of Excellence, and Dillard is now one of only 311 women selected for the award since 1989.

That was always my dream, is to be a teacher. I was a teacher at first and love teaching school and then moved into Administration, and it was just a natural move for me. I just always knew that I wanted to be an educator. We're responsible for educating the kids of tomorrow and we have to have them ready. We educate every child we don't turn anyone away and so it's very important for people to understand that about public education, that we are the cornerstone of the heart instructing these kids and helping them to their next level of where they want to be that's been the best part about my job is being able to also still stay involved in the school setting I had to really pray about it when I moved to HR because I loved being a principal and I loved being involved with kids and I think my impact is that I get to help select the people that go into those classrooms to educate those kids and that's the most important thing we do the biggest predictor of Student Success is the teacher that's how important it is to have good highly qualified in front of these kids anything you do you have to bring the joy into it and you have to make sure that the people around you feel that joy and feel the lightness of it because you can't just go in every day with a heaviness of what's going on in your life or what's what the hurdles hard work you've got to bring the lightness to it what gets me through the day each day is the ability to help every person that walks through my door when I was younger when I was teaching I was pretty much a single mom a lot of that time and so my accomplishments were raising beautiful daughters 2 of my daughters are teachers 2 of my granddaughters are special ed assistants and I didn't push that on them but I think the enthusiasm that I showed for the profession made them want to see what that was all about and so um 4 of them are in education no matter profession no matter what treasure you're in you got to love what you're doing you got to be passionate about it you have to want to make it bigger and better every single day and that's my job every day is to make sure we have enough teachers make sure we that everybody feels good about teaching those kids that we're supporting them just making sure that we're building the best world no matter what we're doing what profession what trade whatever we're doing because if you love what you do it's not work you know I don't feel like I get up and go to work I feel like I go and do what I love to do some of the biggest challenges of going through having cancer and still going through treatment um is that you just live every day to the fullest and you value the people that you love and that you take care of the people that are around you but it is mind over matter when you have something that could kill you do look at life differently and you do think how am I going to be better what am I going to do how am I going to live the rest of my life
