Harrison's Defense Leads Varsity Volleyball to District Wins

The #22 Frenship Volleyball team opened District 2-6A play with back-to-back victory over Rebels. The first, a 25-20, 18-25, 25-22, 25-21 victory over Midland Lee to open district play. The Tigers were led in that contest offensively by Aali Mayfield with 13 kills followed by Emma Davila with another 10. Hannah Page posted an impressive 6 aces on the evening as well. Gracie Harrison led the team defensively with 30 digs followed closely by Page with 26.

The Tigers took their 1-0 record on the road Friday to face the Amarillo Tascosa Rebels. Frenship found victory after a hard-fought five-set match-winning 16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 17-25, 15-10. Gracie Harrison turned in another impressive performance leading the Tiger in digs (23) and kills (14). Kendall Mahaney chipped in another 21 digs and Aali Mayfield and Devyn Nairn another 12 and 10 kills respectively.

For her strong two-game performance, Gracie Harrison is currently nominated for Lone Star Varsity Female Athlete of the Week. She combined on the week for 22 kills, 53 digs, and 4 blocks. Votes can be cast here: http://bit.ly/2oOr6QP. If selected, Harrison will join Donovan Smith and Drew Hocutt as an Athlete of the Week and will be the third in as many weeks for the Tigers. LSV Athletes of the Week receive an invitation to the Lone Star Varsity Awards at the end of the year.

The Tigers will be back in action on October 1 against Midland High and will then host Odessa Permian on Friday, October 4 in the Tiger Pit at 5 pm. Home Frenship Volleyball games can be found for viewing at www.frenship.tv by noon the day following home matches.
