The Tiger's Den is Not Made for the Panthers

After a close game of 46-44, the Tigers are happy to secure their first District win. The game ended on a positive note thanks to Kicker, Drew Cox, who connected a 32-yard goal with 2:32 to play. Ultimately, stopping the Permian Panthers from leaving the Tigers den in one piece.

“Drew was clutch. What I like about Drew is no matter what’s going on, even in close games he’s always calm. When you have a calm kicker, it makes you feel that much better. I’m proud of him, because he’s worked hard and that was big for us,” said Head Coach Jay Northcutt.

Another big element to the game was having a school record broken. Quarterback Hudson Hutcheson broke the record for all-time leading passer in Frenship football history.

Overall, Coach Northcutt is walking away from another game proud of how the Tigers performed and pulled through.

“I’m proud of our kids for staying on mission tonight and never wavering and stepping up to answer the call,” said Coach Northcutt. “Winning is winning, and if it’s in close games to get it done, that’s the way we’ll do it.”

Although the team has more momentum under their feet, they’ve switched their mindset to prepare for the next game.

“It was a big sense of relief after the win. You have to always prepare with a sense of urgency, but when you’re in the situation that we were in needing to win, you really have to do everything to prepare. Everything has a little bit more edge to it. Even though it was a really close win, it’s a big relief, but it doesn’t last long because then you have to get ready for the next one,” said Coach Northcutt.

The Tigers now have a record of 6-2 and 1-2 for District 2 6-A. The team is buckling down for the senior night football game against the Odessa High Bronchos on Friday, October 27. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. at Peoples Bank Stadium.
