Girls Basketball Looks Ahead to 64th Annual Caprock Classic

This past week, the Frenship Girls Basketball team fell short to the Amarillo High Sandies. Head Girls Basketball Coach Trent Hilliard is encouraging the team to use this loss as a stepping stone to become better.

“We were disappointed with the way we played against Amarillo, but we understand that these types of games make us better in the long run,” said Coach Hilliard. “We talk all the time about the fact that they don’t hang banners for what we do in the non-district season. Banners and Gold Ball Trophies come from district play and the playoffs and everything we do during November and December is to prepare us for January and February and possibly March!”

Amarillo High Game Stats

  • Abbi Holder, 13 points, 10 assists, 2 rebounds
  • Addisyn Bollinger, 13 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds
  • Kedan Burch, 10 points, 2 rebounds
  • Abby Boyce, 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists

Now, the Tigers are gearing up for The Caprock Classic, the world’s largest high school basketball tournament. The Tournament is hosted by Lubbock Caprock AMBUCS, a local non-profit. All funds raised from the tournament will go to people with disabilities.

Coach Hilliard is pushing the team to be ready for another strong round of games. After having broken Frenship’s school record for the longest winning streak this season, the Tigers are preparing for the tournament knowing that several eyes are on them.

“The Caprock Tournament will be another test for us,” said Coach Hilliard. “We will play the best from the area and a few schools from outside the area. It will be possibly result in a rematch or two against teams we have already beaten. Our record start has placed the target on our backs as the team to beat so we have to embrace that and know that we will get everyone’s best shot.”

The Girls Basketball Team is feeling hopeful about the rest of the season.

“It’s not often in life that you get to set a new record or standard that nobody has done for 90 years,” said Coach Hilliard. “We embrace when those opportunities come and are excited that the 18-game win streak is one that has raised the bar for future Tigers. Who knows, maybe this same group has another 18-game streak in front of them!”
