Boys Basketball Looks Forward to District Play

The Tigers started their winter break facing the Tascosa Rebels on December 21 at home. The Tigers defeated the Rebels 71-64. After that, the team traveled to Mansfield for The Championship Basketball Whataburger Tournament.

“It was a great opportunity for our team and program to get to participate in this year’s Championship Basketball Tournament in Mansfield over the Christmas break,” said Head Boys Basketball Coach, Paul Page. “Winning our first game in OT against a very good Denton Guyer team put us in the championship side of the bracket where we got the opportunity to face two more very good teams in Arlington Martin and Leander Rouse.”

The Championship Basketball Tournament Results

  • Frenship defeats Guyer, 85-78
  • Arlington Martin defeats Frenship, 59-48
  • Leander Rouse defeats Frenship, 68-53

“Our ultimate goal in playing in the Championship tournament was to validate and expose what we are doing well and what we need to improve on against very high-level opponents,” said Coach Page. “We were able to do that and are eager to work towards facing those caliber teams in the playoffs.

After the Tournament, the Tigers headed back home playing Midland Christian on January 2. The Tigers defeated the Midland Christian Mustangs in overtime, 61-59.

Up next, the Tigers play the Midland High Bulldogs on Friday, January 12. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Midland High.

“We are excited to start district on Friday at Midland High,” said Coach Page. “Our guys understand the stakes are high as we try to win our third district title in a row and we know that we will get everyone's best efforts against us each and every game.”
