Frenship Hosts CTE Dual Credit Signing for Media Students

This week, students from Frenship High School and the Ninth Grade Center signed their commitment to furthering their media education during a CTE Dual Credit Signing Day. These students will be taking Introduction to TV Technology, a course aligned with the Film/Video Production program at South Plains College.

Devin Ward, a broadcast media teacher at Frenship High School and the Ninth Grade Center, joined 54 of his students in committing to the program, pledging to guide them through the process. For 43 freshmen in the program, this marks their first college-level course.

Ward explained the signing ceremony was to emphasize to the students that they are now considered college students, and this class will be on their college record. He hopes that the dedication and importance of the signing will transfer into hard work in the classroom

A representative from South Plains College attended the signing ceremony to help make the day feel more real for the students. The stage was set with SPC tablecloth, balloons, and swag for the signees. Before the signing, the representative spoke to the students about the importance of taking dual credit classes in high school and how tremendous this opportunity was for them.

Frenship ISD has an extensive CTE program for students to explore various career pathways. The media signees showcased their dedication to working through the program and towards a career in media production through.

Ward explained thar he believes the CTE program and the SPC Dual Credit program will prepare his student. As a former reporter for KCBD, Ward is committed to supplying his students with real world experience.

“We prepare you for a career in my class,” said Ward. “By signing up for dual credit - you are one step closer to achieving a TV career and ultimately getting a job.”

This course is offered completely free of charge, eliminating any financial barriers and providing students with a valuable opportunity to take a significant step toward their future careers. While in the media program at Frenship, students will have the opportunity to learn several facets of media production and broadcasting. Students can join the Frenship.TV team and learn to livestream several varsity sports as well as compete in various video production events with SkillsUSA.

The future is bright for these students!
