Frenship Memorial High School Names Head Cross Country Coach

Frenship ISD is proud to welcome Nick Cordes as the Head Cross Country Coach at Frenship Memorial High School. With an impressive background in both education and athletics, Coach Cordes brings years of leadership, experience, and a passion for student growth to this new role.

Cordes served as the Director of Cross Country and Track at Lubbock Christian University from August 2014 to August 2024, leading the program for an entire decade at the collegiate level. Before his time at LCU, he coached basketball and track at Trinity Christian School.

After a fulfilling college coaching career, Cordes felt a strong calling to return to the secondary level and joined Coronado High School, where he spent the 2024–2025 school year teaching business and coaching basketball and track.

“I’m excited to help welcome all the students to the new school and give them the best I can to help them reach their goals in and out of the classroom,” said Coach Cordes. “The opportunity to lead a program that my own kids may one day be part of was just too good to pass up.”

Cordes has three years of experience at the junior high and high school level and brings with him a rich coaching history that includes mentoring student-athletes in both basketball and track. His career reflects a deep commitment to not only athletic achievement but also academic and personal growth.

Outside of coaching, Cordes is a proud father to three children, Carsyn, Drew, and Maysn, all of whom attend or have attended Frenship Memorial feeder schools. His wife, a Lubbock native and former Texas Tech University track standout, is a two-time National Track Champion. The couple met while running for a professional distance running team in Michigan and were famously married on the NBC Today Show in 2009 with the support of the Lubbock community.

Frenship ISD is excited to welcome Coach Cordes and looks forward to the positive impact he will have on both the cross country program and the broader school community.

Welcome to Frenship, Coach Cordes! We’re glad you’re here.
