Nine Willow Bend students and 22 Memorial High School students displayed their artwork at the 48th Annual Lubbock Arts Festival as part of the Young Artist Competition. The event celebrated the creativity and artistic talent of students from public schools, private schools, and homeschool programs across the region.
This special exhibition gives young artists the opportunity to present their work in a professional setting while being recognized for their artistic achievements. Student artwork is displayed throughout the festival and judged by grade divisions, with awards presented for outstanding entries. The competition encourages creativity, supports arts education, and highlights the incredible talent of young artists in our community.
The theme for this year’s Lubbock Arts Festival was “BLOOM!” — a vibrant celebration of the beauty of flowers and their timeless connection to creativity, imagination, and the visual arts. Students used the theme as inspiration while creating their competition pieces.
Willow Bend Art Teacher Lindsey Sides said she chose to participate in the festival to showcase her students’ work beyond the annual Frenship Fine Arts Showcase.
“I’m extremely proud of their hard work,” said Sides. “I hope to have more student artwork at the festival in the future.”
Memorial High School students demonstrated their creativity through paintings, pastels, drawings, and mixed media pieces. Memorial Art Teacher BriAnna Cruz has participated in the Lubbock Arts Festival for the past four years and wanted to continue the opportunity with her students at Memorial.
