Erik Prospero joins the Frenship family with six years of experience in dance education, choreography, and program leadership. Throughout his career, he has focused on building strong team culture, developing student leaders, and creating environments where dancers can thrive both on and off the performance floor.
His dance journey began at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo before continuing his training with Lone Star Ballet. Prospero earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from West Texas A&M University, graduating cum laude. His professional experience includes performing in the outdoor musical drama TEXAS and serving as a choreographer for national and international pageants, including Miss Texas Latina, Miss Teen Universe USA, Miss Teen Charm USA, Miss Teen Mundial USA, Universal Teen USA, and Universal Teen International.
In education, Prospero has served as the Dance Director at Palo Duro High School for the past six years, where he led the Don Diamonds dance team to regional and national recognition. He also served as the Pom Coach for the West Texas A&M University Spirit Program and as Studio Director for Lone Star Ballet.
For Prospero, joining Frenship is an opportunity to continue investing in students while helping build an exceptional program at Memorial High School.
"I decided to join Frenship because I have a deep passion for developing dancers and creating positive, hardworking environments," said Prospero. "I am eager to bring my vision to a new team and continue growing and learning as an educator and leader within such a respected district."
As he prepares for the upcoming school year, Prospero is excited to build upon the momentum of Memorial High School's young Pom program while inspiring students to reach their full potential.
"I am excited to build a program that people immediately recognize for its excellence, professionalism, and culture," said Prospero. "I'm also excited to share my love and passion for dance with my classes every day, helping students build confidence and develop respect for the art form. Dance brings me such joy, and I hope to create a place where students feel inspired."
Prospero's passion for mentoring students is deeply personal. Growing up with English as his second language, he understands how dance can empower students to express themselves and build confidence.
"English is my second language, and growing up I sometimes struggled to express myself," said Prospero. "Because of that, I understand how powerful dance can be as a form of self-expression and communication. I hope to help my students not only grow as dancers but also gain the confidence to find their own voice."
Outside of school, Prospero enjoys playing tennis, learning new skills, and exploring new places. He is looking forward to growing alongside his students and athletes.
“I believe being a lifelong learner helps continue growing both personally and professionally, and I hope to inspire that same curiosity and love of learning in my students,” said Prospero.
