As part of the 2020 Bond package, Frenship ISD will open a fourth middle school, Alcove Trails Middle School, in August of 2023. Frenship is one of the fastest growing school districts in Texas, and the addition of a fourth middle school will help accommodate the growing student enrollment. 
 
Naming: Alcove Trails Middle School (Name finalized in January 2023)
Site Secured: Spring 2021
Construction Starts: Summer 2021
Open House: Summer 2023
Doors Open: Fall 2023

Attendance Boundary Process: October 2022- January 2023 (Attendance Boundaries finalized in January 2023)

Naming the Fourth Middle School
Naming new schools is a big decision and Frenship ISD believes it is important to include our staff, students, parents, and community in the decision-making process. To help name the new middle school, Frenship ISD opened a public survey and received nearly 1,600 name submissions. During the January 19, 2023, school board meeting, the Frenship ISD Board of Trustees approved one the name submissions, Alcove Trails, as the name of the fourth middle school.
 
Naming Timeline:
  • November 14-30, 2022 - Public survey for Frenship parents, students, staff, and community members to submit a name for the fourth middle school
  • December 2022 - Top name nominations will be reviewed by District administrators and Board of Trustees
  • January 19, 2023 - The Board of Trustees voted and approved the name: Alcove Trails Middle School

Boundary Lines for Fourth Middle School
The opening of Alcove Trails Middle School in August of 2023 will impact attendance zones for all of Frenship's middle school campuses. Guided by School Board Policy (FC Local), Frenship ISD gathered input from Frenship parents and community members on the zone considerations. 
 
Attendance Boundary Timeline:
  • October 4 - 6 2022 - Town hall meetings at each of the middle school campuses
  • November 17, 2022 - Public comments and feedback made during the town halls and sent to the Frenship boundaries email will be presented to the Board of Trustees during the school board meeting
  • December 19, 2022 - Recommendation to the Board of Trustees on the proposed attendance zone as a discussion item, community members can sign up to make public comments at the school board meeting
  • January 19, 2023 - The Board of Trustees will vote and adopt the new attendance zones
  • Spring of 2023 - The district will develop grandfathering and other guidelines related to the 2023-2024 attendance zones

Principal - Rebecca Whipkey
During the summer of 2022, Rebecca Whipkey was named the principal of Alcove Trails Middle School. She takes on the new role with a wealth of knowledge and 23 years of educational experience. 
 
Rebecca joined the Frenship family in 2003 and for nearly 20 years, she has served Frenship students, parents, and staff in various roles including math teacher, basketball and track coach, instructional coach for Frenship staff, and most recently the assistant principal at Frenship Middle School for two years. 

Over the next year, Whipkey will work on the logistics of opening Alcove Trails Middle School including staffing, campus procedures, and ensuring the facility and programs are equitable to Frenship’s existing middle schools.
